Reflecting on
Leadership

Writing Assignment
Draw upon what you’ve learned in this lesson and your life experiences to compose a final reflection on leadership.

Introduction

For homework, write an essay that summarizes your personal thoughts on leadership. You may wish to use one of the suggested essay prompts below.

Consider all the varied theories, thoughts, and views on leadership that were shared in this lesson—from the readings, video interviews, and your own classmates.

What are your three most important “take-aways” from this lesson, and why?

Furthermore, how do you want to apply these three “take-aways” to your own life?

Prompt 1:

Reflect on your own leadership experiences.

What do you place importance upon when you lead?

What characteristics do you embody as a leader, and what characteristics do you want to embody?

What are your strengths as a leader, and in what ways do you want to continue to grow?

Prompt 2:

Write about an experience in your life where someone demonstrated effective leadership.

What was the experience? Who showed leadership, and what did they do? How did this person make you feel? Why would you consider this an example of effective leadership?

What traits, abilities, skills, behaviors, and/or relationships did this person exhibit or rely on, and which of these aspects do you want to adopt, grow, and/or practice in your own development as a leader?
